I’ve been blogging now for a little less than eight months and this week saw the 10,000th hit on The Rustbelt Radical. I know this is modest, even by left wing blog standards, but I am pleased to have even a modest audience. After a shaky start this blog has seen a nice growth in passers by. For the pioneers of Marxist blogging (you know who you are) thanks for the inspiration. To those of you who ought to (the best writers I know don’t blog) think about it. We need more left voices.
I first got involved in active politics in my teens twenty years ago when getting the word out meant spending all night at Kinkos cutting and pasting fliers together. Lit distributions are not some comrades cup of tea. I never particularly minded it, depending on the event. And now I routinely converse, share documents and ideas, organize and commiserate with comrades all over the world thanks to some electronic pulses. Trotsky’s Left Opposition sure would have benefited from a little bandwidth. So thanks Al Gore, we couldn’t have done it without you!
The writing can be a little spotty here at the Rustbelt and sometimes my whims take me to places that interest only me. Sometimes they take me away from blogging altogether for a while. A growing readership keeps me coming back, despite the brutal critique I sometimes apply to myself. So thanks to all the readers, contributors, advisers, etc. who have participated and helped out. Further suggestions most welcome. We’ll do it for another four months and evaluate then. We need all the people shouting, or mumbling as the case may be, about socialism we can get these days.
