My friend Paul in Venezuela has turned me on to Ali Primera, a kind of Venezuelan Silvio Rodriguez or Woody Guthrie. He died way too young in a car wreck twenty-some years ago. Yet another reason to find the automobile disagreeable. How could I have not heard of him before?
This is a great song. Even with my limited Spanish the subtitles are unnecessary. The soul of the song is immediately identifiable. This was given, I think, in the early 1980’s in Nicaragua for the people of El Salvador. So if, like me, you had never heard of Ali Primera before, now you have. Enjoy companeros!
