  1. There’s no need for a competition between the Blairites and the Brownites – they’re the same thing.

What were the consequences of New Labour? “It’s too soon to tell”.

In any case, keep the faith.

Wow, that’s news to me. Incredible!

Good choice of song above, though I would have opted for Oi Polloi and the classic “Fuck Everybody Who Voted Tory” 😉

    • Good choice. I love how all the punk bands took 1984 to heart back then. I saw Oi Polloi play a festival at an abandoned warehouse in Dayton, Ohio in 1990. Punk fucking rock.

  3. Interestingly, a Labour-Lib Dem-DUP coalition would have made for a (bare) majority government, counting that Sinn Fein is still abstentionist. Such a coalition (ie, the labour bureaucracy, assorted liberals, and some reactionaries) actually sounds a bit like the New Deal-era Democratic Party.

    • Interesting it would have been. I didn’t know that it was Sinn Fein’s abstentionism that would have allowed that majority. Though I am not sure how much of a role the labor bureaucracy has had in NL for some time. What made the New Deal the New Deal was the union component and it’s missing these days though less so in Britain than here. The DUP and Labour are both devolutionists so, if the DUP could have refrained from advocating stoning homosexuals, they could have gotten along fine in coalition I think. It would make for some uncomfortable dinner party conversation at Liberal Dem’s country homes I’m sure, but alas we’ll never know. My fear is that with Labour in opposition there will be even less possibility of a party left of Labour forming. Who knows though. We will see.
